Dembart (?) Checkering Tool - Shooters Forum There's Dem-Bart and GunLine Those are the major checkering tools, as far as I know Probably not much difference between them, in the end (if you can get the cutters you need) It's pretty much practice, practice, and more practice, if you want to learn to checker
Dembart (?) Checkering Tool | Page 2 | Shooters Forum I got the Dem-Bart Master Set of checking tools and checkering oil yesterday (from Midway) I'm going to finish the stock first, and then checker when I'm done with that So, I ordered the African Express oils from Brownells today I taped the checkering before sanding so I didn't knock down the checking any more than it already was
Stock checkering - Shooters Forum When I decided to add checkering, I went out and got the full line of Dem-Bart tools and did some trial work on scrap I guess if a person practices enough, he can become pretty good at it, but I never laid one of those tools to an actual stock Afraid of ruining some perfectly good wood
checkering | Shooters Forum I'm really thinking of doing some checkering on a skeletonized buttplate (the wood face on the inside, which is a walnut burl and hard as a rock) that i'm working on Looking around, haven't checked Brownell's but MidwayUSA has a bunch of Dem-Bart checkering tools that fit my price range and look like they're begging to be bought and practiced
hand checkering - Shooters Forum I'd recommend a jointer (checkering tool) and a veiner along with a complete set If you got to Brownell's tech section in the how-to's there's a good article on redoing old checkering and Brownell's sells a kit with the needed tools just for that
Hand checkering tools question - Shooters Forum This was all done with a single cutter Dem Bart tool and a short S-1 Dembart tool Here's the forend after refinishing and recutting the checkering, looks almost new
Refinished stock too slippery. - Shooters Forum Dem-Bart have a booklet that explains their tools and gunstock checkering but I don’t have a copy so I don’t know what’s in it exactly Dembartco - tools for the gun craftsman and fine woodworkers Anyhow they should be able to sort out what you need to do a job as a first timer with no tools at the moment
Stock refinishing - Shooters Forum The only finish I have had any real luck in using for this is Dem-Bart's Checkering Oil It is just the right consistency for wiping on very thin coats and seems to dry quickly enough to be practical You can wipe on coats by hand after you have reached the No 400 grit stage in your sanding-in, letting each coat dry a couple of days
